The Firm

Engineering that answers to the brief, not to a billing structure.

SLS Engineering Solutions is a Johannesburg-based Civil, Structural and Project Management consultancy established in 2018. We deliver professional engineering services across infrastructure, property, and outdoor media — from Gauteng to KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, the Western Cape, and internationally.

In the South African mid-market, firms pursuing R20 million to R500 million mandates typically face one of two realities: a large multidisciplinary firm that hands the brief to junior engineers once signed, or a smaller practice that wins on price but can't match the depth the brief demands. SLS was founded to occupy the space between.

We are a Level 1 B-BBEE consulting engineering firm, with engineers registered with ECSA and CESA, and ISO 9001:2015 certified. Our portfolio spans over R500 million in active projects and more than R1.1 billion in completed delivery across five provinces and Southern Africa.

About SLS

Seven years. One standard, never diluted.

This is the story of a decision made in 2018 — to build an engineering practice where the most experienced person is never the furthest from the work.

2018 — The Founding

A deliberate proposition, not a fallback plan.

Luxolo Tsoko founded SLS Engineering Solutions with a clear thesis: make senior engineering judgment available to mandates that large multidisciplinary firms consider too small, and that smaller practices are too inexperienced to handle credibly. SLS began as a R3 million turnover firm — director-led from the very first brief.

Before SLS — The Proving Ground

Kusile, the Freeway, and a SAISC Steel Award.

Luxolo's fifteen years before founding SLS ran through some of the country's most demanding engineering environments — Kusile Power Station and the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project at Group 5 Construction, then Structural Design at WSP Group Africa's Structures division, including the Fourways Mall Promotions Court Tubular Roof, a 2019 SAISC Steel Award-winning project.

2018 – 2021 — Establishing The Standard

The Director Standard becomes structural, not personal.

Every project SLS accepts is led at director level — not managed from a distance. This is built into how SLS operates: guaranteed director-level judgment at every critical decision point, in the brief, during design, on site, and at handover.

2021 – 2024 — Scaling Without Diluting

From single mandates to a multi-provincial portfolio.

SLS expanded delivery across Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, North West, the Western Cape and into Namibia — carrying institutional mandates for DUT, PIC, Broll Property Group and the Department of Education alongside social housing and civic work, all without lowering the seniority applied to any single brief.

2025 – Today — Landmark Scale

R500 million active, R1.1 billion delivered.

Today SLS carries a national JCDecaux Structural programme spanning South Africa and Namibia, twin campus mandates for Durban University of Technology, ongoing PIC compliance and Broll Property Group refurbishment work, and continued institutional, education and property mandates. As SLS grows, The Director Standard grows with it: the firm recruits and retains specifically to sustain the commitment.

Our Commitment

The Director Standard is not a promise made by one person.

"Engineering, at its best, is invisible. Nobody remembers the calculation, they remember that the building stood, the budget held, and the programme was met. That is what we are actually in the business of protecting at SLS: quiet, consistent certainty, on every project we touch."

Luxolo Tsoko, Managing Director

It is what allows a development manager at a property fund to trust that a Structural assessment reflects fifteen years of experience at landmark scale, not the output of a graduate working under a deadline. It is what allows a procurement committee at a public institution to know that a Civil Engineering sign-off is backed by a Pr.Eng who has personally delivered infrastructure of comparable or greater complexity.

SLS has also built a deliberately forward-looking practice. The firm has integrated AI-assisted tools into its Structural modelling, design review, and quality-control processes, not to replace engineering judgment, but to sharpen it, catching what fatigue or time pressure might otherwise miss.

The Leadership

Director profile.

Luxolo Tsoko, Managing Director, SLS Engineering Solutions
Hear from Luxolo — Power FM interview
Luxolo Tsoko
Pr.Eng (Civil) · Managing Director

Luxolo Tsoko is a professionally registered Civil Engineer (Pr.Eng, ECSA) with fifteen years of experience across Structural Design, Civil Engineering, and Project Management. His career before founding SLS ran through two of the most technically demanding engineering environments in South Africa's recent history.

At Group 5 Construction, he worked on Kusile Power Station and the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project — national infrastructure programmes of a scale and complexity few engineers in the mid-market consultancy space encounter firsthand. At WSP Group Africa's Structures division, he moved into Structural Design, contributing to the Sun International Time Square Casino and the Fourways Mall Promotions Court Tubular Roof — a 2019 SAISC Steel Award-winning project.

Since founding SLS in 2018, Luxolo has personally led the Durban University of Technology campus upgrade programmes in Durban and Pietermaritzburg, the Dukathole retail development in Aliwal North, and a wide range of building refurbishments across the country.

He also leads SLS's ongoing investment in digital engineering practice — incorporating AI-assisted design review, modelling and quality-control tools into the firm's workflow, so that director-level judgment is supported by, rather than diluted by, the pace of modern delivery.

Engineering opportunity, beyond the blueprint.

Since 2018, SLS Engineering Solutions has put the same director-led standard we bring to a client mandate behind two commitments closer to home: opening the profession to young people who rarely see themselves in it, and backing the communities we build in — on the course as much as on site.

CESA Job Shadowing Initiative.

SLS Role — HostRun nationally by Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA)

Run under Consulting Engineers South Africa's Young Professionals Forum, the Job Shadowing Initiative gives high school learners a real day inside a consulting engineering practice — not a talk about engineering, but a seat in the room where it happens. SLS has hosted two cohorts so far, each built around a company overview, a presentation from one of our own junior engineers, a site simulation, and a hands-on design-and-build challenge.

JB Magongo Golf Challenge — Soweto.

SLS Role — Sponsor & Tournament PartnerOrganised by the JB Magongo Foundation NPC

On 16 June 2026 — the 50th commemoration of the June 16, 1976 tragedy — SLS Engineering Solutions stood alongside a group of fellow sponsors and partners for the inaugural Gauteng leg of the JB Magongo Golf Challenge, hosted at the Soweto Country Club. The tournament itself is conceived, organised and run by the JB Magongo Foundation NPC — this was its 7th edition since 2019, and the first to include a golf clinic for first-time junior players.

The Individual Stableford format at the heart of the JB Magongo Golf Challenge is deliberately built for accessibility — it rewards individual development regardless of handicap, opening a historically exclusive sport to golfers who would rarely get a fairway, let alone a trophy. Some 40 junior golfers and 80 amateur golfers from Soweto, Alexandra and Thembisa took part, alongside 25 first-time juniors in the day's golf clinic and 16 young volunteers gaining real event experience.

SLS joined a partner list including the City of Johannesburg, the Lindelwa Foundation, AOS Consulting, Edge Engineering, Tenacity Quantity Surveyors and the Soweto Country Club itself — all in service of the Foundation's mission to identify and develop talent from disadvantaged communities, and to give young people a platform to "Think, Act, and Live Positively."

Social cohesion

Golfers of every age, gender and background shared one course and one leaderboard.

Human dignity

Subsidised access to a world-class golfing venue, hospitality, prizes and awards for historically disadvantaged communities and their youth.

Local economic empowerment

Stipends for local volunteers, and trade for local hospitality and accommodation businesses.

Sporting development

Two junior champions — Thando Maqhubu and Naledi Lekopa — each walked away with a R2,000 school bursary alongside a full golf set.

"The excitement of young people in the golf clinic, the impressive golfing skills on display, coupled with the camaraderie and joy shared among golfers, families, and the community created an unforgettable experience for all involved." Rev. TR Magongo — Chairman, JB Magongo Foundation NPC
